Travelling with your partner is a great way to take your relationship to the next level and experience different and exciting locations together. Going away on a trip with your date is a big commitment, so only go if you trust your date and are comfortable spending alone time together. It is also important that going away is a decision you consider together, as a trip is something you both should be keen to do before organising.

It is strongly advised that a trip is only considered after a number of successful dates, where you feel happy together and are 100% sure you want to take things to the next level. Remember there is plenty of time in the future for trips away, so there’s no need to rush.

When thinking about different trips or destinations, my advice is to start small and work your way up. If your relationship is developing in a way you are comfortable and happy with, why not suggest a day or weekend trip away somewhere close by, to experience some low pressure, quality time together in new surroundings with new activities to try?

No matter the length of the trip, it is important that you always tell somebody who you’re going with, where and when you are going, and check in with friends or family to let them know everything’s going okay. Remember that a trip does not have to be expensive or extravagant  – often a couple of train tickets to the seaside will be cheaper than a fancy dinner and drinks!

Being in a new setting with your date often acts as a catalyst for new conversations and is an opportunity to learn fresh and interesting things about each other that may not have been uncovered in a usual date setting. It is also a great way for you both to develop your trust of each other and to move things forward.

Below I have listed 5 great trip ideas for the different types and stages of dating:

Check out local exhibitions and shows

Travel into the biggest nearby city or town for the day and check out some gallery exhibitions or shows. This quick and simple trip idea can be a great way to get to know your date’s thoughts on creative creations. Often art is a fantastic way to strike up passionate and personable conversations as it can uncover interests and views that may not have been previously obvious. Often booking train or coach tickets in advance will save cash, and most of the more well-known galleries often host admission-free exhibitions, so check out some gallery websites for something you fancy, and get planning!

Escape your town or city and head out into nature

When dating in the same city or town, it can quickly become hard to come up with new ideas or activities you haven’t tried before, so why not head outside to check out what the local countryside has to offer?  Research local hiking trails or country walks that could be great fun to wander along together, like the classic coastal walk from Seaford to Eastbourne on the South Downs Way, a couple of hours out of London. Often the only price associated with a nature-date would be train or bus ticket, so it’s almost a free dating idea, and you can even take a thoughtfully made packed lunch for a classy meal in natural surroundings. This suggestion is obviously weather dependant, so consider this in the warmer months or remind your date to wrap up appropriately!

Attend a regional festival

What better way to enjoy your date’s company than surrounded by animals, food and drink! With a huge array of festivals to choose from in the UK, there really is something for everyone. Whether it’s classic cars, gigantic pumpkins or folk music, there is bound to be something you can both agree will be super fun. With plenty of opportunities to hang out and enjoy some attractions together, this is a great chance to let your hair down and enjoy an action packed event with lots on offer. Often the summer months are crammed with regional festivals and fairs, like the Surrey Food Festival,  so my recommendation is to do some research in spring so you can choose the right one for you.

Festivals also give the opportunity to share a camping experience together. Not only does this mean you can enjoy the great outdoors and a mini adventure of your own, it can also give you a nice little break from the business of the city without the financial and time commitment of a full-blown holiday.

If you’re already planning on attending a festival or fair with your friends, why not invite your date along to see how they get on with those closest to you?

Attend a group retreat

If meditation and mindfulness are something that interest you, then why not head off for a super-healthy retreat. This is a great idea as many retreats will be hosted as a group, so it can also be a great way to meet friends and other like-minded people, and to see how your date reacts to new people, without being as personally intense as a traditional holiday.

There are many health and fitness focused retreats out there, my personal favourite is Destination Yoga. It is worth noting that although many retreats are international trips, there are also plenty at home in the UK.

Jet off to paradise!

My final suggestion is something that I only recommend for much longer term relationships. There is nothing more romantic than whisking your date away on a fantastic holiday or spa break, but be aware that this is a big commitment, so only take this step when you have maybe experienced some of the other ideas listed above.

A full blown holiday is a fantastic way to explore new cultures together and experience things that are perhaps new for the both of you. If you are looking for something that’s classy and hassle-free, then my recommendation would be something similar to In:Spa or The Private Travel Company – companies that offer unrivalled attention to detail and luxury for that 5 star experience.

If you’re looking something a little more casual, then my recommendation is to look for some cheap flights to a city or town in Europe, such as Krakow, and see what great deals you can find. Exploring a brand new country or showing your date around a city from your past is definitely high up on the romantic-date-list.
